Use This Check List To Stay On Top Of Mercedes Maintenance

Mercedes maintenance

Every Mercedes owner knows how important it is to look after their car. If you own a prize racehorse, you’re not going to keep it in any old stable. You’ll also ensure you have the best stablehand in the business. Why should it be any different when it comes to your Mercedes maintenance? There’s a big difference between doing things well and doing them right.

At Foreign Affairs Motorwerks, we do things right because Mercedes-Benz requires the finest engineering precision for their motor vehicles.

The Mercedes Maintenance Checklist

Mercedes requires two types of alternating services. Service A starts at 10,000 miles and repeats after 20,000-mile intervals. Service B begins at 20,000 miles and repeats in the same interval. Whether you’re due for an A or B service, the following checklist will ensure you cover your bases:

  • Oil change with full synthetic motor oil
  • Oil filter replacement
  • Checking fluid levels and correcting if necessary
  • Inflate tires to factory-recommended pressure
  • Inspect tires for wear and damage
  • Battery health check
  • Headlight & taillight inspection
  • Windshield wipers, washer & fluid check (replace if necessary)

Oil Change With Full Synthetic Motor Oil

Not all motor oils are the same. Mineral oils were the default for older car engines, but what worked for the old-timers won’t cut it for modern cars. Modern Mercedes engines are built with very fine tolerances. Only synthetic motor oil is good enough for lubrication.

Mineral oil molecules are of different sizes and present a “rough” lubrication surface. Synthetic motor oil molecules are all the same size, meaning that the lubrication is uniform across the contact surface. Synthetic oils last longer than mineral oils and handle heat better.

Oil Filter Replacement

There will be debris that develops within your engine oil over time. The oil filter catches these to ensure that debris does not circulate through the engine. A dirty filter can hamper oil flow. A fresh filter ensures the oil stays clean and that lubrication is efficient.

Checking Fluid Levels & Correcting If Necessary

The most important fluids that need checking are:

  • Brake fluid
  • Transmission fluid
  • Power-steering fluid
  • Coolant

If any of these fluids are below expectations, this could point to a severe problem. Fluid checks are essential for diagnosing engine maintenance levels for your Mercedes.

Battery Health Check

Mercedes motor cars are some of the most advanced. Each motor car has multiple control units and computers. All of these require a reliable supply of power from the battery. A healthy battery also ensures that your Mercedes starts perfectly every time. Battery maintenance on your Mercedes is essential for hassle-free motoring.

Headlight & Taillight Inspection

Nighttime driving is safe if you can see where you’re going and if other drivers can see you. Working headlights keep the roads safe. Whether a blown bulb or fuse is the cause of a non-working light, our service technicians will identify and rectify the problem.

Windshield Wipers, Washer, & Fluid Check

A windshield is only as good as the view that it provides the driver. We check for cracks and scratches and will notify you if a windshield replacement is necessary. Wipers are checked for wear and tear and replaced if necessary. It’s a good idea to keep your washer fluid topped to clean the windshield when you’re out and about.
