GasGas confirms street motorcycle range expansion

Spanish motorcycle brand GasGas has confirmed that it will be further growing into road-going motorcycle segment in the near future, mcnews.com.au reports.

Having been acquired by the Pierer Mobility Group in 2019, GasGas currently resides under the KTM umbrella of brands that include KTM as well as Husqvarna.

In the future, the GasGas range will be enlarged and expanded with street motorcycles and MotoGP is preparing the ground for these products that will come year by year,” the website quoted GasGas board member Hubert Trunkenpolz as saying at the GasGas MotoGP team launch in Barcelona.

Being part of the Pierer Mobility Group, GasGas motorcycles are related to those from KTM and Husqvarna

Products in the GasGas range are predominantly of the offroad type, coming under the enduro, motocross, cross country and trials categories. That said, the brand does have road-legal models such as the ES700 and SM700. In Malaysia, the GasGas range is comprised of the MC250 and MC250F motocross and the EC250, EC300, EC250F and EC350F enduro off-road models.

With the aforementioned Pierer Mobility Group family connection to the KTM and Husqvarna brands, the ES700 and SM700 duo are closely related to the KTM 690 Enduro and 690 SMC as well as Husqvarna 701 Enduro and Supermoto models, respectively. These models are powered by a 692 cc single-cylinder engine with a six-speed transmission, offering a peak output of 74 hp.

Therefore, the upcoming street models from GasGas will almost certainly be based on those from KTM and Husqvarna. Could the larger, twin-cylinder models could form the basis of the upcoming street models for GasGas?
