Three 2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA 45 models need new tires, says the automaker. All three feature rubber that might have irregularities in the bead area that could lead to a rapid loss of air pressure. Mercedes and Michelin used X-ray technology to find the problem before initiating the recall.

If there’s one component that most enthusiasts will happily fork over extra cash for it’s a good set of tires. Of course, as a component that can completely transform how a car behaves, that’s not too surprising. The 19-inch Michelin tires fitted to the 2023 AMG CLA 45 are a great example of a tire that compliments the car’s intended use.

In the case of three units, the stock Michelins have an irregularity in the bead area that can cause a loss of air pressure. Mercedes and Michelin initiated an investigation in December of 2022 surrounding tires that were losing air pressure and only found the bead issue through X-ray analysis. On the basis of those findings as well as weight measurements, the pair of companies identified a certain batch of affected tires.

Early this year, the two collaborated to find tires from that batch in the production cycle and rework them with new tires. Based on the results of their findings, three vehicles managed to get out of the plant with potentially dangerous tires. As such, Mercedes issued this recall and will replace the tires on all three affected models.

As of this writing, Mercedes says that it doesn’t know of any warranty claims, field or service reports, or injuries associated with this defect. It also says that models built after December 5th, 2022 don’t have this issue. While the chances are slim, AMG CLA 45 owners can inquire about whether or not their vehicle is included in this recall by contacting their local dealer or the NHTSA directly at 1-888-327-4236.
