The 2024 Lexus RX is a five-passenger crossover SUV straddling the premium and luxury price points, similar to the Infiniti QX60, Acura MDX, and Volvo XC60.

This mid-size SUV tries to attract youthful buyers without alienating its core, with an offering of four powertrains on the menu, which includes three hybrids, and a choice of six trims. It’s a good value with great standard features, attractive design, and a spacious cabin. Last year, it earned a TCC Rating of 7.0 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

We expect the Lexus RX to carry over for 2024 following a redesign for 2023.

The RX features fresh styling inside and out and a modern powertrain lineup. The fifth generation of the SUV marked a move to the brand’s new global platform, both lighter and stronger. The old V-6s were phased out in favor of new hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.

The RX sports an athletic profile with a long, dramatic nose that dips into the spindle grille. The F Sport gets distinctive air intakes at both ends, fresh lighting signatures, and sporty wheel designs. The cabin is streamlined with integrated digital instrumentation and a driver-focused touchscreen.

Every powertrain option has a distinctive feel, lending plenty of character to the RX lineup, though all betray their size and ride height in the handling.

The entry-level RX 350 gets a 2.4-liter turbo-4 paired with an 8-speed auto transmission that sends 275 hp to the front or all four wheels. It has spirited acceleration and strong passing power. In F Sport grades, adaptive dampers enhance the RX’s front-strut and multi-link rear suspension.

The RX 350h features a 2.5-liter inline-4 hybrid system, good for 246 hp, that targets ratings of 36 mpg combined. Heavy throttle results in complaints from the CVT, which could be alleviated with steps simulating real shifts. The RX 500h F Sport Performance model, however, gets the 2.4-liter turbo-4 and a motor on each axle. That results in standard all-wheel drive and total output of 366 horses and 406 lb-ft of twist, good for a sub-six-second sprint to 60 mph.

The RX 450+ plug-in hybrid shares mechanicals with the Toyota RAV4 Prime, so look there if you want similar specs but don’t need the luxury badge.

Lexus increased cargo room by extending the wheelbase but trimming the rear overhang, which results in only a five-passenger configuration. Cabin design is thoughtful and cohesive with physical climate controls, and is best fitted with the optional 14.0-inch touchscreen. An electronic shifter adds a modern touch along with options like ambient lighting, keyless entry, a head-up display, and various upscale trims.

Lexus includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and active lane control. The IIHS awarded the Top Safety Pick+ rating.

How much does the 2024 Lexus RX cost?

The 2024 Lexus RX comes in Standard, Premium, Premium+, Luxury, F Sport Handling, and F Sport Performance versions. Pricing started at around $49,000 in 2023, including the $1,150 destination charge, and climbed to about $63,000 for the RX 500h F Sport Performance trim. All-wheel drive cost $1,600 on the Standard and Premium+ grades; it was included with F Sport and hybrid configurations. We’ll update these prices as they’re published.
