How to Ride Your Motorcycle Safely in a Group

Summer is here, and that means it’s the perfect time to go riding in a group with other motorcyclists. Whether you’re hitting the open road with friends or the local community, it’s essential that you consider safety before setting off. Take a look at some of these essential tips you should note.

Establish a leader

A leader should ride at the front of the group for everyone else to follow. This person should be the most experienced and most confident rider. Ensure everyone knows who this person is.

Determine a route

Before setting off, you should all know the route you’ll take, where you will stop for a break, how frequent the breaks will be, and how long the journey should take. Ensure everyone riding is comfortable with the route chosen. On the day, research if there are any diversions or accidents before you all set off.

Prepare the bikes

Everyone riding should ensure that their bike is well-maintained and is up for the task of undertaking a road trip. Check the fluids, top up the gas, and ensure the tires are in good condition.

Ride staggered

The leader at the front should drive slightly to the left of the lane. The person behind him or her should stick to the right-hand side of the lane. Repeat this pattern with each rider so that you are not riding side by side or directly in front of each other.
