A Wet Start for Pottstown Nights Car Show Series

One of the great aspects of Eastwood’s home base in Pottstown, Pennsylvania is the area’s rich car culture. In to heyday, Pottstown was known as the Cruising Capital of the Northeast. If you’ve ever seen the classic film American Grafitti, that was essentially a snapshot of old Pottstown.

Today, the town’s main drag, High Street, has been reconfigured to discourage drag racing and cruising. But the locals still show up anyway to park and hang out together the first Saturday of the month between May and October. Pottstown Nights, as it’s officially known, is no longer an underground scene but part of the official municipal calendar now.

Organized by the private Red Horse Motoring Club, the summer event series closes off the downtown’s most popular blocks. Car enthusiasts from all over the area bring out their cars to show off, parking them on the legendary boulevard.

This year’s series kicked off with a soggy start thanks to off-and-on showers throughout the day. The rain kept away a lot of the traditional street rods, hot rods, and high performance customs. But the show still went on, showcasing some of the more modern rides that normally get lost in the fray.

While a topical night probably sees 500 or more cars, the weather held the group to less than 100 vehicles. But there’s still a lot of summer to enjoy this year and we’re hoping for better conditions next time out.
