How to Safeguard Your Car From Theft

Keep your car safe from theft with these tips.

Finding out that your vehicle has been stolen is a scary scenario for motorists. You can find yourself in a state of panic and worry, since losing your car is a significant financial responsibility. However, most theft is a result of breaking-and-entering, and can be prevented. To protect your vehicle from theft, take a look at these tips.

Lock your car. Sounds pretty obvious, right? Even so, it’s a step that many motorists forget. Make it a habit to not only lock the door until you hear the locks click, but also to test the door to ensure it is indeed locked. That way, you can protect your vehicle as well as anything you leave in the car, such as your laptop or personal information.

Park in well-lit areas. Be mindful of where you park, especially if you’re going to be out at night. Choose parking spots that are well-lit and in public areas. Thieves are less likely to steal a vehicle when it is in a densely populated area.

Keep valuables out of sight. It’s always advisable to keep personal belongings out of sight so that people passing by cannot see your laptop, camera, the navigation system, or otherwise. If you do leave these belongings in your car, tuck them away in the trunk or glove box so that they are not visible.

Turn your car’s wheels into the curb. Surprisingly, this simple trick can deter thieves from taking your vehicle. By turning your wheels into the curb or towards another vehicle, the thief would have to make more maneuvers to drive off in your car.

Do not leave your vehicle title in the car. Too often a car thief is pulled over and gets away from the police cause because he or she can produce the auto registration.
