Keep Your Car Cool This Summer

Stop your car from overheating this summer.car broken down on side of road

As temperatures rise, so do your chances of your car overheating and breaking down this summer.  If you live in an area that experiences extreme summer weather, then it’s important to protect your car’s engine from getting too hot.  Here are some of the suggestions that you should try.

  • Inspect Your Car’s Cooling System– Before you set out on a drive, make sure that you have enough coolant in the tank. You should also inspect your hoses, belts, and radiator cap.  If it’s been a while, then you should take your car into the shop to have your car’s cooling system flushed and refilled.  Auto experts recommend getting this service every 24-months or so.
  • Park in the Shade– Most cars are not built to withstand severe weather conditions. When you leave your car out in the sun, your engine is far more likely to overheat.  This summer, simply parking in the shade or in areas without direct sun exposure will reduce the chances of your car overheating.
  • Use Your Floor Vents– Rather than simply cranking up your car’s air conditioning and hoping for the best, take a more strategic approach. Because hot air rises, blowing cool air through your car’s floor vents will push hot air out far more efficiently, cooling your car down much more quickly.
  • Pull Over– If your car’s temperature dial shoots up, or if you start seeing water or steam coming from your car’s hood, then pull over as soon as it’s safe to do so. If you see smoke starting to come from your car, then move away from your vehicle.
  • Add Coolant– After you have given your engine time to cool down, you can safely add coolant or water to your engine. Please do not attempt to do this when your engine is hot as it could cause significant damage.

These are some of the steps that you should take to keep your car cool this summer.  Want another way to take care of your vehicle?  If so, then secure the right auto insurance to fit your needs.  For assistance with your car coverage, contact the experts at VGW Walker Insurance in Texas today.
