Tesla Unveils Portable EV Home Charger Inspired By Cybertruck

The Cybertruck-style accessories assault is in full swing, as Tesla unveiled a new charger for the Chinese market over the weekend. The Cybervault weighs just 29 lbs (13 kg) and can be used either as a home charger or to give your EV a little boost away from home.

The accessory’s design is inspired by the Cybertruck, but it’s more than just aesthetic. In a video from the automaker, the charger can be seen withstanding water, dirt, hammers, and even a pair of steel balls, which may be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the steel balls that shattered the windows of the Cybertruck show car.

Within it, the Cybervault contains a single-phase 220-volt charging device that is compatible with all Tesla vehicles. At home, it can deliver 32 amps and seven kilowatts of charging performance, and it has a 19-foot-long (6 meters) cable.

On its website, Tesla suggests that the Cybervault will be able to charge a vehicle overnight, with owners able to schedule when they’d like their charging session to start, or when they need to leave by, to ensure their vehicle is fully charged.

In addition to being an at-home charger, buyers can also buy a special 8-amp adapter, and take it with them on their next drive as a portable powerbank. Without installation fees, the Cybervault costs 5,500 Yuan ($799 USD at current exchange rates). It is unclear at this time if the product will be offered in other markets.

Just like the latest Cybertruck-related product from Tesla, the company also revealed GigaBier, a limited edition Pilsner-style beer to be sold in Europe. Packaged in a decorative sleeve whose design was inspired by the Cybertruck, allowing the automaker to cash in on a model that’s actually not on sale yet.
