Ineos Quartermaster pick-up to debut at Goodwood

As the de facto British motor show these days, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is never short of new car reveals. Here’s one more for the 2023 must-see list: the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster. Also known as the double-cab pick-up one, set to make its global debut on Thursday July 13th.

Ineos hasn’t released much more information for the moment, adding only that the Quartermaster will be part of the First Glance paddock and run up the hill on every day of the Festival. There’s not even much to tell from the teaser image, beyond the familiar Grenadier light signature and the name stamped large on the tailgate in case it wasn’t clear already what you were following. Expect the engine lineup of the Quartermaster to mirror that of the Station Wagon, with a BMW six-cylinder diesel and petrol option, plus the usual array of off-road options for those customers who really want to put the truck to work off the beaten track.

Ineos says that the reveal of the Quartermaster will be accompanied by a ‘very special appearance on the hillclimb’, featuring familiar Goodwood faces to celebrate both 75 years of motorsport there and the, um, Belstaff Trialmaster Jacket. Because Trialmaster is a Grenadier spec, of course. So keep a lookout for that.

Additionally, Ineos will show its hydrogen concept car at FoS. Another model being seen in public for the first time, the Grenadier Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology Demonstrator aims to show ‘how well-suited the zero-emissions technology is for a future long-range 4×4 off-roader’. Which is certainly an interesting development for the Grenadier, given that just about every other electrified 4×4 and SUV out there is a battery-electric vehicle.

Might this also be using BMW technology? It was only in February that the iX5 Hydrogen pilot fleet was launched, so perhaps it’s a bit soon. But it demonstrates that Ineos has the future in mind; the very fact the Grenadier exists and is now with customers shows they’re not a company to be deterred by a challenge…

Finally, those who want to experience the Ineos for themselves might be interested in hundreds of drive slots across the four days in a combustion-engined car ‘to put the 4×4 through its paces’. To be held at the Goodwood Halnaker Chalkpit, visitors are told to expect a ‘challenging off-road course’. Do let us know how you get on!
