Porsche and Microsoft confirm Xbox collaboration

Another day, another Porsche 75th anniversary celebration. But who’s to complain about more cars like the Mission X and 718 Spyder RS? Porsche’s latest big birthday bonanza is a little more down to earth, however. In fact, it doesn’t even have wheels. Because it’s what everybody wants for their birthday (if maybe not their 75th) – an Xbox.

Porsche has teamed up with Microsoft to create six special liveries for Xbox Series X consoles that celebrate its most memorable liveries over the decades of endurance racing. Or rather, ‘the greatest racing colours of Porsche’s storied 75 year history’. There’s one to tie it in with the #75 963 that competed at Le Mans over the weekend (no prizes for guessing which one that is), as well as designs paying homage to the pink pig 917/20, the ‘hippy’ 917K, the 911 GT1, a Martini 935 and the Salzburg-liveried 917 that won Le Mans in 1970.

‘Dreams are always louder in colour’, says Porsche, and it’s hard to think of many more iconic colour combinations than those selected here. And there’s no Gulf Xbox, thank goodness – we’ve all seen enough of that, surely.

Announced by Geoff Keighley at the Summer Game Fest, the special series will feature 75 consoles across the six designs. But these Xboxes aren’t limited edition Porsches only available to the highest bidder or the best-connected collector, as you can actually win one. And then sell it for a small fortune soon after, perhaps. Gamers in the US, UK and Germany can enter via porschexboxsweepstakes.com until October, after which 75 lucky winners will be selected at random to get one. Probably going to be quite a few entering. We’ll have the pink pig, please…
