Carlisle’s Indoor Auto Mania Breaks Up Winter’s Chill

Winter is a tough time to be a car enthusiast in the northern part of the country. And lately, it’s been serving up its deep freeze well into other parts as well. In fact, it’ll still be months before many of us get our favorites cars back on the road. But there’s nothing like an indoor swap meet to break the winter blues.

Carlisle Events knows we all get restless in the period between the holiday decorations coming down and the trees budding out. Better known for its large-scale national show series, the Carlisle staff puts together a wintertime gathering of the faithful. Now held at the Agri-Plex event center in Allentown, PA, its Auto Mania event is a chance to come in out of the snow and mull around with friends. Maybe even buy a thing or two.

A mix of autombilia and Americana filled the two exhibit halls

Held this year on the weekend of January 19th through 21st, the event got off to a slow start thanks to a winter storm that rolled in on opening day. The following day, however, saw the flood gates open, filling the two exhibit halls containing more than 100 vendors.

The mix of exhibitors ranged from die-cast models and toys to tools and equipment vendors (including Eastwood’s own mobile store. Like with most swap meets, there was solid contingent of both automobilia and general 20th-century Americana sprinkled in.

It was hard to tell if much cash was changing hands, but everyone looked to be enjoying their time out of the house. If nothing else, the heat sure felt good. And on a 10-degree day with fierce north wind, that was worth the cost of admission.
