Mercedes introduced the redesigned E-Class sedan last week and it will soon be followed by additional variants including a rugged wagon.

Known as the All-Terrain, the model will follow in the footsteps of the sedan and adopt a prominent grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. We can also see flush-mounted door handles and distinctive taillights with three-pointed star graphics.

That’s where the similarities start to end as the All-Terrain sports a practical wagon body. However, its claim to fame is plastic body cladding and an off-road focused suspension. We can also expect faux skid plates and rugged driving modes.

The interior should largely carryover from the sedan and this means we can expect to find an MBUX Superscreen that draws inspiration from the MBUX Hyperscreen. Mercedes hasn’t gone into many specifics, but it features a sizable infotainment system as well as a display for the front passenger.

Elsewhere, there should be a freestanding digital instrument cluster, flowing ambient lighting, and a selfie / video camera on top of the dashboard. Customers can also expect open-pore wood trim and the ability to make TikTok clips in your car.

An assortment of engines will likely be offered in the European All-Terrain, although Mercedes has only confirmed two options for the American sedan. They include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque as well as a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.

The crossover-inspired wagon will likely debut later this year and return to America. That remains to be seen, but the 2023 E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain Wagon starts at $71,250 and battles the Audi A6 allroad as well as the Volvo V90 Cross Country.
